Collegiate Recovery at Providence College
The Providence College Collegiate Recovery Program offers a comprehensive holistic collegiate recovery program (CRP) supporting students in recovery from substance use disorders and other behavioral addictions. This program is called Compass Collegiate Recovery Program where an inclusive space is welcoming to allies of recovery and any student who identifies as working toward wellness from varied pathways.
Grounded in the College’s commitment to the development of the whole person, Compass offers peer connection, professional support, and access to campus resources. The program empowers students to engage fully in academic and social life while strengthening and sustaining their recovery.
Compass is a safe, supportive community where students on unique and individualized paths of recovery grow in purpose, resilience, and wholeness.
Rooted in Providence College’s Dominican Catholic tradition of Veritas – truth – we walk alongside students as they build lives of purpose and wholeness.
The two main goals for the CRP team at Providence College are to:
- Create an on campus designated space for students for campus wide well-being and Recovery programming.
- Develop evidence-based programs for recovery and inclusiveness of all dimensions of wellness.
The Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) at Providence college integrates evidenced based programming whereby students in recovery gain life skills that lead to achieving success in both their academic and personal developmental goals.
For every individual, wellness is a daily practice. As such, the Evidenced Based programming and learning objectives will highlight Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement. This area of focus is aligned with the mission of Providence College, which is deeply rooted in Faith, Holistic Health and Wellness. The holistic focus of our CRP will be intentionally attuned to the core pillars of health which include one’s mind, body, and spiritual dimensions of wellness.
Providence College is a Catholic Faith based institution, encouraging students to explore Spirituality and Wellness through the lens of open curiosity and learning. Providence College CRP prioritizes creating a safe recovery community to bring students on a wellness journey together. A feature public health campaign message PC has extensively used in the past, and will include in the CRP, is nurturing the "we in wellness".
The Compass House at Providence College in partnership with Herren Wellness is a substance-free living community of wellness, recovery, connection, and academic success. Located just steps from campus. There are also designated living spaces on campus through PC Well.
