Recovery Community Centers
Mission
Recovery Centers across Rhode Island provide community-based, peer-led support that helps individuals and families navigate recovery beyond clinical settings. By creating welcoming, substance-free spaces grounded in shared experience, Recovery Centers encourage connection, reduce isolation, and support personal stability at every stage of recovery. These centers strengthen local recovery networks by linking people to resources, relationships, and opportunities that support long-term wellness and community engagement.
Vision
Recovery is a visible and valued part of everyday life in Rhode Island communities. Recovery Centers serve as accessible gathering places where people find support, purpose, and belonging, and where recovery is recognized as a pathway to health, participation, and hope. Across the state, individuals are able to access safe, supportive environments that foster growth, strengthen community ties, and sustain recovery over time.
Core Values
Equity, Access & Inclusion: Recovery support should be available to everyone. Recovery Centers are committed to reducing barriers, addressing disparities, and ensuring culturally responsive services that reflect the needs of Rhode Island’s diverse communities.
Peer Leadership & Lived Experience: Recovery Centers are grounded in the belief that lived experience is a powerful source of knowledge, leadership, and healing. Peer-driven support fosters trust, authenticity, and connection, creating environments where individuals feel understood and supported.
Wellness & Recovery Capital: Recovery extends beyond abstinence. Recovery Centers support holistic wellness—social, emotional, physical, and economic—and help individuals build the skills, relationships, and resources necessary for long-term stability.
Dignity, Respect & Autonomy: All individuals are met where they are, without judgment or expectation. Recovery Centers honor personal choice, respect diverse recovery pathways, and affirm each person’s right to define their own goals.
Hope, Empowerment & Growth: Recovery is possible. Recovery Centers exist to inspire hope, encourage personal empowerment, and support individuals as they reclaim their strengths and move forward with purpose.
Community & Belonging: Recovery is strengthened through connection. Recovery Centers cultivate inclusive communities that reduce isolation, build supportive relationships, and foster a sense of belonging for individuals and families.
Recovery Community Centers (RCCs)are peer-operated spaces that provide vital support to individuals and families affected by substance use. These centers offer welcoming, substance-free environments where people can connect with others in recovery, access essential resources, develop life skills, and build the foundation for long-term wellness.
Recovery Centers do not replace treatment or clinical services. Instead, they complement them by providing ongoing, accessible support that extends beyond formal treatment. They serve as community anchors where recovery is strengthened through connection, shared experience, and mutual support.
Purpose & Role in the Recovery Continuum
Recovery Centers play a critical role in Rhode Island’s recovery-oriented system of care by: - Providing consistent, community-based support before, during, and after treatment - Reducing isolation and stigma through peer connection - Supporting transitions from treatment, recovery housing, incarceration, or hospitalization - Strengthening recovery capital through social networks, skill development, and resource navigation
By offering flexible, relationship-centered support, Recovery Centers help individuals sustain recovery over time and remain engaged in their communities.
Recovery is strengthened through connection, stability, and opportunity. Recovery Centers help individuals move beyond survival toward meaningful participation in family, work, and community life.
