Eligibility & How to Apply

  • U.S. Citizen or lawful resident of the U.S. at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Resident of Rhode Island for at least six (6) months
  • Income not to exceed 200% above federal poverty guidelines
  • Willingness to participate, follow house guidelines, and engage in recovery
  • Not in need of detoxification from any recent substance or alcohol use
  • Other criteria as determined by individual housing providers

Call (401) 942- STOP (7867) and complete a brief screening to determine your eligibility for recovery housing financial support.

  • Please Note: State funded recovery housing is available ONLY for peers active in recovery with a history of substance use. Peers without a history of substance use are not eligible.

What is 942-STOP

942-STOP (401-942-7867) is the RI Hope & Recovery Hotline, facilitating screening for financial support eligibility and placement into state-funded certified recovery housing. Eligible individuals may be placed on a waitlist.

How do I join the waitlist for state funded recovery housing?

  • Call the RI Hope & Recovery Line at (401) 942-STOP between 7AM and 7PM and speak with a screener to determine your eligibility for financial support.
  • If found eligible, you will be placed on the waitlist. Recovery housing availability determines length of wait time.
  • You must have a minimum of 30 days substance free, and recovery must be a priority for waitlist placement. There are minimum standards of being substance free, please consult with the 942-stop during intake
  • Call 942-STOP weekly to maintain your placement on the waitlist and confirm your interest in housing

I have been accepted into Recovery Housing, what are my next steps?

  • When you’re ready to move into a recovery house and your name reaches the top of the waitlist, you will be contacted by 942-STOP. The house name, managing agency, and any other placement options will be shared at this time. Once you accept, 942-STOP will inform the house of your decision and provide contact information.
  • Call the house ASAP and complete a brief screening to determine if you’re an appropriate fit. The house will contact 942-STOP who will inform you of their decision.
  • If you’re accepted, details about the recovery house and appropriate next steps will be shared with you.
    • If a placement feels uncomfortable, it is your right not to accept.
