Recovery Housing Financial Support

In Rhode Island, there are two grants (1-year grand & 6-month booster grant) available for recovery housing residents.

The 1 Year Grant

Resident eligibility is reviewed by the house manager or managing agency every 90 days, for up to one year (365 days). For Certified NARR Level II Recovery Houses, costs are covered through a tiered payment system:

  • Days 1–90: State covers 100%
  • Days 91–180: State covers 80%
  • Days 181–365: State covers 60%

The 6 Month Booster Grant

The Booster Grant is designed for peers who have previously lived in recovery housing, but due to a recurrence or another destabilizing event in their recovery, need to return to a safe and supportive housing environment.

For this 6-month program, eligibility is reviewed every 60 days, up to 180 days total. Certified NARR Level II Recovery Houses are reimbursed according to the following tiered payment system:

  • Days 1–60: State covers 100%
  • Days 61–180: State covers 60%

Self Pay Option

Some recovery houses reserve a portion of beds for self-pay clients, who may be charged higher rates than residents whose stays are funded through grants.

  • Self-pay clients often have faster access to available beds since they do not go through the 942‑STOP system and are not placed on a waitlist.

This option provides additional flexibility for individuals seeking immediate placement or alternative arrangements outside the state-funded system.
