As a Physician Assistant for our Substance Abuse Treatment Facilities, you will play a crucial role in assisting individuals on their journey to recovery from substance abuse. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to implement treatment plans, monitor client progress, and contribute to the overall well-being of individuals seeking recovery. Zinnia Health provides services for both inpatient detoxification and residential patients. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for performing exams, and physicals, ordering tests and treatments and consulting with the clinical team. All services will be documented in the current Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in such a way that documents medical necessity, communicates the care delivered, and supports interdisciplinary collaboration and accurate billing of services.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide daily and weekly medical assessments for patients.
  • Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of therapeutic and evidence-based treatment.
  • Discuss and review the role of anti-craving medications for relapse prevention.
  • Request any necessary laboratory studies on clients as determined by the results of the assessment.
  • Provide individual/group treatment and medication management to clients taking psychiatric medications.
  • Discuss cases with the medical director and/or psychiatrist, and licensed clinical team and/or other team members to ensure coordination of comprehensive client care plans.
  • Submits health care plans and goals of individual clients for periodic review and evaluation by quality control teams, utilization review, and physician/administrative leadership.
  • May refer clients to the physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
  • Handles crisis intervention and counseling.
  • Knowledge of theoretical and pharmacologic issues related to the clinical treatment of common psychiatric disorders.
  • Strong competency in utilizing electronic medical records.
  • Maintain compliance with all documentation requirements.
  • Maintain client records to comply with CARF and state licensing standards, using the EHR.
  • Meet with clinical supervisor and Director(s) on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Delivers work product at the level of Relative Value Unit production specified in the employment offer letter, at a minimum. This level of RVU production is subject to change from time to time, depending on internal and external factors.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current  Rhode Island Physician Assistant license; multi-state licensed preferred.
  • Previous experience working with mental health and/or substance abuse treatment, preferred.

  • Available by phone/telehealth to respond to psychiatric emergencies
  • Refer residents for specialty care, as needed
  • Strong interest in caring for a diverse patient population in an inpatient substance abuse setting.
  • Experience and interest in substance abuse and treatment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience with EHR and Microsoft programs

  • Minimum experience: one-year providing high-quality health care to a diverse patient population, preferably within an inpatient setting.
  • Strong computer skills, including electronic medical records.
  • Experience with substance use disorders preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Ability to comply with internal, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work and communicate with others.
  • Ability to apply organizational management skills and maintain self and client discipline.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain required documentation.

Salary Description

$50-$60 hourly
