Description of the organization: FSRI is a 128-year old Rhode Island behavioral health and human services institution employing 250+ individuals in the Rhode Island workforce and impacting the lives of 20,000+ Rhode Islanders statewide every year. We provide a wide continuum of services around health, hope, healing and homes. Over 80% of our clients are considered low-income and 70% are children. Over half of the people served are from minority communities, many speaking another language at home. Our mission is to advance equity, opportunity and hope in our communities.


FSRIs clients are negatively impacted by inequities relating to social determinants of health like socioeconomic status, education, neighborhood and physical environment, employment, social support networks, and access to health care. They are, for example: living in sub-standard or unaffordable housing or homeless; struggling with substance use; under or unemployed and struggling to obtain basic necessities; medically vulnerable; limited English proficient; not connected to primary care physicians; parents working from home while caring for and supporting their childrens remote learning; stressed-out teachers adapting to remote learning; first responders in danger of experiencing primary and secondary traumatic stress; foster care parents caring for high needs children; and people dealing with preexisting behavioral health conditions and past trauma.


FSRI directly provides an extensive range of programs and services such as mental and behavioral health counseling, prenatal and early childhood supports, child and family well-being, schoolbased services, adult services, chronic disease support, and other community building initiatives. Description of the Advancement Team: The Advancement team serves as the primary architect of a comprehensive development program that advances Family Service of RIs mission and goals. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Board of Directors, the Advancement team designs and implements a comprehensive, results-oriented strategy for annual fundraising, major and planned giving, campaigns, special events, grants and contracts, communications and marketing.


Advancement team (A Team) Position Summary: The A-team intern position will last not less than 3 months, with the potential to be extended. Working within a highly innovative, results driven statewide nonprofit, this internship position will provide you with substantial experience and skills across the Advancement team that are highly marketable in nonprofit and for-profit settings. The A-Team is an established cohort internship program, open to students from all colleges giving interns the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals as well as their peers from colleges across the country. Interns are sought to work (within 2-3 person teams) within four discrete workstreams:

  • Grants & Prospecting

  • Development & Fundraising

  • Communications (Internal and External)

  • Organization Visibility, Content Marketing & Social Media


Teams are expected to work on and complete discrete projects during their internships, working with internal and external stakeholders including some of the leading minds and voices within Rhode Island.

Skills:

  • Required strong writing and research skills

  • Detail oriented and ability to prioritize

  • Ability to multi-task and work independently

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Required proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (preferred)

  • Ability to edit photos and video, manage a website, and support social media campaigns (preferred)

  • Bicultural and bilingual preferred, ability to communicate fluently in Spanish a plus.

 

Other Qualifications: We are seeking a motivated and responsible individual who is looking to gain experience working with a nonprofit. Prior interning experience is not a requirement, but we do require you to have a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. A candidate should have an interest in Family Service of Rhode Islands mission. A potential intern should be comfortable working independently but also working with a team and a supervisor. This is an unpaid internship.
