Position Summary The Management and Marketing Department within the School of Business at Rhode Island College invites applications for a full-time, Assistant/Associate Professor of Health Care Administration. The successful candidate will teach courses related to health care administration and contribute to the program’s ongoing development, housed within the School of Business. This role also involves scholarly research, advising students, curriculum development and contributing to service initiatives within the department, the college, and the broader health care community.

The Health Care Administration Program (HCA) at Rhode Island College provides Baccalaureate-level and Masters level education and training for students considering careers in the health care industry. The program is specifically targeted for those pursuing supervisory and management positions and/or preparation for graduate education. The program represents a unique collaboration between the School of Management and the School of Nursing with significant contributions from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development.

This four-year, 120-credit interdisciplinary program was crafted based upon accrediting body standards, best practices of existing programs around the nation, and the recommendations of experts, and utilizes courses from 18 different majors. The HCA major also incorporates an internship and an integrative capstone experience. For their restricted electives, students are offered choices within gerontology, human resource management, informatics, management foundations, and wellness. There is also a minor in HCA.
Essential Duties
  • Teach courses in health care administration, including but not limited to biostatistics, data analytics, research methods, health informatics
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, guiding their academic progress and career development.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous improvement of the department’s programs.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as part of faculty governance.
  • Engage in community outreach and professional service activities that enhance the department’s role in the health care community.
  • Maintain an active professional presence in the field, attending conferences and workshops to stay current with industry trends.

Occasional Duties Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the director of the Health Care Administration program.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Good teaching skills and ability to impart this knowledge to undergraduate students, as well as fulfill all other job functions.
  • Ability to teach quantitative courses including biostatistics, data analytics, research methods.
Required Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. or DrPH in Health Care Administration, Public Health, Health Services Research, or a closely related field or MS/MBA with focus on healthcare management
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and community stakeholders.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in one or more areas of healthcare management such as health care finance, policy analysis, data analytics, or health care quality improvement.
  • Experience with in-person teaching and curriculum development.
Environmental Conditions The program is offered in a traditional laboratory and teaching facility.
