Family Support Partner

Summary: This role works with youth and young adults who are in the care and custody of the RI Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) and living in a residential setting. The Family Support Partner is responsible for working with these youth and young adults and their identified families and kin to promote meaningful and regular contact. The Family Support Partner utilizes lived experience to develop authentic relationships to foster successful collaboration with families and assist to reducing barriers to successful reunification. The Family Support Partner will coordinate family engagement activities to provide a safe, therapeutic environment. May provide direct support and services for youth. The Family Support Partner’s involvement with residents and families is by family choice, as some families may either choose not to have a Family Support Partner or may not require it. The length of involvement is different with each family.
Qualifications:
- The Family Support Partner must have lived experience of involvement with the RI DCYF.
- Knowledge and competencies needed to effectively support other families are needed.
- Trauma Systems Training (TST) training and certification are required, but will be provided in-service at a later date. Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, as needed.
- The position requires reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, registration, inspection, and a driving record.
- In addition, the reliable transportation must have a minimum of three seats in addition to the driver’s seat.
- Bilingual skills are compensated by an additional 6%, above base pay.
- Multilingual skills are compensated by an additional 8%, above base pay.
Physical Requirements: This position requires residential and community visits,
employees in this position must have the ability to:
- Travel to and from community locations and residential site locations, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators.
- Ability to utilize a computer and Electronic Medical Record to complete documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 20lbs.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to push or pull 10 lbs or more
- Ability to pick up 10 lbs or more
- Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
