Hospitality Staff (per-diem, varied hours, on-call as needed)
Reports to Project Coordinator and Shelter Supervisor

Hospitality staff will have strong communication and conflict resolution skills; clear boundaries and an understanding of the needs of those who are in need of various supports. Hospitality staff must have an ability to handle difficult situations in a swift and calm manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Assures safety and security of all guests in the shelter at all times
  • Monitor distribution of meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Provides supervision and monitoring of guests
  • Provides positive modeling of behavior, language, promptness and responsibility for guests.
  • Maintains logs, especially documenting incidents that occurred during shift, making sure guests are compliant with cleanliness, appropriate behavior in common spaces, supervision of their items, curfews etc.
  • Communicates and de-escalates problems in the center and any other issues that arise during the shift.
  • Conducts continuous rounds of the entire center, checking on all guests in all aspects of their activities.
  • Checking egresses and entryways to ensure there is no loitering or risks.
  • Notify Site Coordinator of any suspicious activity, unauthorized activity, significant behavior changes on the part of the guests in the center when issues require an elevated level of intervention and guidance.
  • Staff must comply with all the aspects of guest confidentiality and Amos House Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • The Hospitality staff on duty is ultimately responsible for the cleanliness of the center, including their working space.
  • Checks all belongings of incoming guest for unauthorized items (ex. food, alcohol, drugs, weapons, etc. and excessive clothing).
  • Staff must attend all required center staff meetings. These will be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by the site coordinator.
  • Staff must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of the importance of boundaries between staff and guests.
  • Shelter staff are prohibited from selling and/or purchasing items to and from guests, using guests to perform personal services or borrowing money or other goods.
  • Staff are forbidden from giving rides to or accepting rides from guests in the center.
  • Staff are responsible for completing all other duties as assigned.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF INFORMATION:
Has full access to personal and sensitive information and systems. Maintains confidentiality of all materials in accordance with State and Federal laws and Amos House policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT:

  • Need to carry items up to 35lbs (assistance can and will be provided if above this weight limit and or made for any reasonable accommodations)
  • Walking and standing for extended periods may be experienced.
