General Summary: The Medical Assistant plays a key role. The primary role of the Medical Assistant is to insure pertinent health information is available within the consumer’s behavioral health record in order to enhance quality of care. The Medical Assistant will also play a role in promoting appropriate follow up care for consumers.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

  • Review patient records to determine status of pertinent health information.
  • Work with internal and external providers to obtain pertinent health information.
  • Update client medication lists.
  • Data enter health information into the electronic health record.
  • Work with Nurses and Prescribers to obtain prior authorizations for medications.
  • Work with Practice Manager, Nurses and Prescribers to process medication refill requests.
  • Obtain client vital signs and enter into the EHR.
  • Obtain/Process specimens for TOX screens and GENESIGHT testing.
  • Communicate with behavioral health teams to insure client follow through with pertinent health care.
  • Coordinate and data enter lab reports. Print patient’s current medication list, review with the patient prior to appointment with MD/DO/CNS.
  • Confirmation calls for client appointments as assigned.
  • Checking phone messages screen throughout the work day and addressing messages/issues
  • Verbally communicating to the providers any urgent issues.
  • Work with the Practice Manager to monitor and process incoming faxes.
  • Compose letters for Clients when requested and Authorized by Prescriber.
  • Work with Case Managers to confirm that any documents requested by client or outside entity are completed prior to requesting Prescriber review or signature.
  • Communicate with front desk staff when scheduling or rescheduling appointments in order to accommodate clients that require rides to and from facility, rides require a minimum of 48 business hours advance notice in order to organize.
  • Review e-mail account daily for new messages.
  • Inform colleagues of any approved time off in order to assist and confirm that there is adequate coverage.
  • Able to cover other Full time Medical Assistant as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend all agency/department required training and meetings within the prescribed period.
  • Attend all Safety Training programs and be able to describe his/her responsibilities related to the general safety, department safety, and specific job-related hazards and responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Competencies:

High school diploma and two years’ experience as a Medical Assistant; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess good typing skills as well as good spelling and grammar.

Excellent communication skills required. General computer experience also required.

Certifications, Licenses Requirements:

Valid driver's license required or ability to obtain necessary transportation in order to perform the responsibilities/tasks of the job.

Certification as a Medical Assistant.
